What is bounce rate?
Bounce rate is the share of sessions that ended after a single page view. It is a measure of stickiness, not quality on its own.
The bounce rate formula.
Bounce rate = single-page sessions / total sessions × 100. In GA4 the related metric is engagement rate; bounce rate is its inverse.
A worked example.
600 bounces from 2,000 sessions is 600 / 2,000 × 100 = 30%.
What is a good bounce rate?
Reference and blog pages bounce higher because the visitor got the answer. Landing pages built to convert should bounce lower. Compare to your own baseline before any external benchmark.
How to lower bounce rate.
Match the page to the traffic intent, speed up load, kill the intrusive popup, and put a clear next step above the fold.
