Bounce rate, time on page, scroll depth, and session duration get tracked everywhere and used almost nowhere. They produce noise because they measure behavior on pages without distinguishing between high-intent and low-intent visitors. Conversion rate to MQL is the headline conversion metric in the operational dashboard. The calculation: inbound contacts who reach MQL stage in a period, divided by content-attributed visitors in the same period. Tracked monthly, with the prior 3-month rolling average shown for trend context.

The number is meaningful only if the MQL definition is documented and applied consistently. Without that, the metric becomes whatever the marketing team needs it to be in any given month. The discipline is documenting the MQL definition explicitly in writing, applying it through automated qualification rules in the CRM rather than manual lead grading, and refreshing the definition annually with sales leadership input.
